Thompson through while Rigby stars in amazing
special comeback
NOTE: Player reference is to the Skip ONLY. Section winner progresses to Div 1 Post Sectional and Section Runner Up to Div 2 Post Sectional.
SECTION 9
In an amazing final game, section 9 was the only section to post double digit margins and ended with a remarkable final standing. After holding a 28 shot advantage, Christina Pavlov (Broadbeach) dropped from 1st to 3rd after Maria Rigby powered to a 26-4 win in which Pavlov won only 2 of the 15 ends. This left Pavlov at 4 + 7 and Rigby at 4 + 22. Meanwhile, as Sue McKenzie (Tweed Heads) led 15-10 with one end to go, her cumulative total was 4 + 6 and needing at least a shot to draw level with Pavlov. As it happened, McKenzie claimed 5 at the last end to finish at 4 + 11 and in second place. Maria Rigby claimed an unlikely but deserving division 1 post sectional place.
SECTION 10
Despite a last game loss, Lorraine Wilmott (Caloundra, 4 + 20) claimed section 10 with Jenny Blyth (Kingscliff, 4-14) in second place.
SECTION 11
Val Young (Tweed Heads, 4 + 20) also had a final game loss but minimised the fallout by conceding only a small margin to Dell O'Neill (South Tweed). The win was enough for O'Neill to progress behind Young.
SECTION 12
Ruth McRae (South Tweed, 6 + 10) was one of three ladies to remain undefeated today while her last game opponent Irene Byron (Mermaid Beach) finished second at 4 + 7.
SECTION 13
South Tweed's Sally Hickman (6 + 37) maintained her dominance of section 13 and cruised into the division 1 post sectionals. Raelene Jenkins (South Tweed, 4-4) courtesy of her win over Lidia Elsey claims the division 2 post sectional position.
SECTION 14
Diana Horn (South Tweed) survived a final game hiccup losing to Norma Munns by 2 shots but progressed to the division 1 post sectional with 4 + 9. Munns finished on 4 + 3 while Pat Auld (Coolangatta) missed 2nd place by 1 shot. Auld nearly caught Munns as she finished with a pair of 3's but fell agonisingly short at 4 + 2.
SECTION 15
Tweed's Laurraine Murray (Tweed Heads, 6 + 30) defeated clubmate Allison Ebbsworth (4 + 6) in the battle for positions 1 and 2 in section 15. Ebbsworth led 8-5 after 9 ends but didn't bother the scorers again as Murray finished strongly with 12 shots over the closing 5 ends.
SECTION 16
June Beverley (Coolangatta, 4-7) played herself into the division 2 post
sectionals with a 2 shot win over Brenda Thompson. This was Thompson's first
loss after 10 successive wins at South Tweed Sports in 2008 (over 2 events) but
Thompson still won section 16 with 4 + 16. Carmen Anderson (Tweed Heads, 2-1)
missed a chance to grab second place after losing by 8 shots to Patty Elliott
(Salisbury, 2-8).
TOMORROW (Wed) is Post Sectional play for both Men's and Ladies. The
draw (skips only) is attached for both.

Game 2
Thompson outlasts Anderson in game 2
NOTE: Player reference is to the Skip ONLY. Section winner progresses to Div
1 Post Sectional and Section Runner Up to Div 2 Post Sectional.
SECTION 9
Christina Pavlov (Broadbeach, 4 + 29) has a comfortable lead in section 9 and will claim a post sectional position barring a large final game loss. Her last game opponent needs a win to have any hope and needs a 15 shot margin to overtake Pavlov. Sue McKenzie (Tweed Heads, 2 + 1) needs a win over Joan Wallis to keep her post sectional hopes alive.
SECTION 10
Lorraine Wilmott (Caloundra, 4 + 21) holds the fate of section 10 in her hand and a win guarantees her top spot and a division 1 post sectional place after the biggest winning margin (17 shots) in game 2. Jean Finney (Tweed Heads, 2-3) and Jenny Blyth (Kingscliff, 2-16) are battling for the division 2 post sectional spot although Finney is a chance for top spot if Wilmott falters.
SECTION 11
With 4 + 24 Val Young (Tweed Heads) can afford a small loss and still be likely to claim section 11. A loss to her next opponent, Dell O'Neill (South Tweed, 2-1) will likely see the two progress while Evelyn Lee (South Tweed, 2-5) will be looking to defeat the winless Nerida Sayer (Tweed Heads, 0-18) to keep her in the mix.
SECTION 12
Section 12 is a battle in two. Final game opponents Irene Byron (Mermaid Beach, 4 + 12) and Ruth McRae (South Tweed, 4 + 5) will take the two post sectional spots with the winner collecting the coveted division 1 place.
SECTION 13
South Tweed's Sally Hickman (4 + 28) has a stranglehold in this section and her massive 35 shot margin over her nearest rival suggests even a loss will not stop her taking the section. Raelene Jenkins (South Tweed, 2-7) and Lidia Elsey (2-16) appear destined to fight for the division 2 post sectional place.
SECTION 14
While a final game win of any margin will secure Diana Horn (South Tweed, 4 + 11) section 14, the margin gap is such that a loss will see her vulnerable. Her game 3 challenger Norma Munns, (South Tweed, 2 + 1) and Pat Auld (Coolangatta, 2-1) are still very good chances of winning the section.
SECTION 15
Another section with 2 players left standing. Tweed ladies Laurraine Murray (Tweed Heads, 4 + 21) and Allison Ebbsworth (4 + 15) face off to confirm the post sectional positions.
SECTION 16
In the heavyweight clash of game 2, Brenda Thompson (Helensvale) defeated
Tweed's Carmen Anderson by 4 shots to leave Thompson at 4 + 18 and leading
section 16. Anderson at 2 + 7 will still like her chances for at least second
place in the section as she plays the winless Patty Elliott (Salisbury) in the
final game.
Game 1

SECTION 9
Christina Pavlov (Broadbeach) had the biggest win of game 1 but unfortunately her tremendous 23 shot win was at the expense of clubmate Joan Wallis. Cabramatta's Maria Rigby was a 7 shot loser to Sue McKenzie (Tweed Heads).
SECTION 10
Small margins were the order in section 10 with Lorraine Wilmott (Caloundra, + 4) defeating Jean Finney (Tweed Heads) while Jenny Blyth (Kingscliff) claimed a 1 shot win over Jackie McWhinney (Algester).
SECTION 11
It was club V club in section 11. Val Young (Tweed Heads) was off to a flyer with a 17 shot win over fellow Tweed lady Nerida Sayer while Evelyn Lee (South Tweed) defeated clubmate Dell O'Neill by 2.
SECTION 12
Small wins for Ruth McRae (South Tweed, 4 shots) against clubmate Elaine Peacock and Irene Byron (Mermaid Beach) had a single shot win over Roselyn Griffin (Tweed Heads).
SECTION 13
Section 13 was South Tweed v Tweed in game 1. South Tweed's Sally Hickman had the second biggest win of the morning with an 18 shot victory against Lidia Elsey (Tweed Heads) while Raelene Jenkins (South Tweed) defeated Di Cunnington (Tweed Heads) by 3.
SECTION 14
Pat Auld (Coolangatta) defeated South Tweed's Norma Munns by 8 shots and Diana Horn claimed another South Tweed win with a 2 shot victory over Linda Gardiner (Broadbeach)
SECTION 15
Tweed's Allison Ebbsworth claimed a 14 shot win over Jan Rohde (Burleigh) and fellow Tweed Heads lady Laurraine Murray was also victorious over Carol Rembacher (Ipswich United) by 7.
SECTION 16
Defending champion Brenda Thompson (Helensvale) began brightly with a 14 shot win over Patty Elliott (Salisbury) while the irrepressible Carmen Anderson (Tweed Heads) started with an 11 shot win over June Beverley (Coolangatta).
