The most Prestigious Ladies Singles tournament in Australia the $10,000 Black Douglas has once again attracted the very best of lady bowlers from Australia wide.

Defending champion and two time winner Kelsey Cottrell will be hoping to join South Tweed legend Ruth McRae as a triple winner and to be the first woman to win back to back titles since Elizabeth Bradley’s 1998/99 double triumph.

Dual winner back in 2004/06 Carmen Anderson , rated the toughest singles player on the ladies circuit, is also looking for a triple crown in this the 22nd year of the Black Douglas.

However, given the quality of the field of 64 players, including past winners Anne John (2010), Karen Murphy (2005/9) and National Captain and current Australia Open winner Lynsey Armitage, one could name 10 or more players that are capable of winning.

The in form player over the past 2 years, Tasmanian Singles Champion and national squad member Rebecca Quail is playing the Black Douglas for the first time and would not surprise to see her reach the final in her first attempt. Jan Agars, another first time entrant has the runs on the board to be a serious threat on current with National Champion of Champion and NSW Singles titles this year.

Throw into the mix, Beth Quinlan, Sharyn Renshaw, Lyn Cuthbertson, Tracy Foster, Christine Pavlov and Maryann Parcell along with local favourite 2011 Qld State Singles winner Ann-Maree Peart and the field is one of the hottest on record.

Play gets under way on Monday May 28 with 32 players divided into 8 sections of 4, the same for Tuesday and then the 8 section winners play again on Wednesday in 4 sections of 4 with the semi finals and final on Thursday May 31.
