- BOWLS FOUNDATION ESTABLISHED
For the first time in the history of the THBC, a
Bowls Foundation has been established, offering a "Bowls
Bursary".
This Bursary, to be offered twice a year, is
available to all THBC men and ladies Bowling A members who demonstrate
commitment and performance both on and off the green in administration
and/or bowling ability. Selection will be based on supplied evidence of
achievement in sport to date, potential for future development within
the Club, past records and overall performance.
"The aim of the bursary is to improve the
overall standard of bowls played at competition level," explained
THBC Chairman Peter Howell.
"We want to encourage and develop members
with potential and commitment to pursue their goals in the sport of
bowls and at the same time remain loyal to the Club."
Two rounds of funding packages will be offered
each year, with applicants invited to apply in February or August. These
packages may include cash payments, reimbursement of expenses and
provision of goods in kind to the successful applicants.
Members who have been selected to play for the
District, State or Internationally and are prepared to declare for the
Club and play pennant, Super Challenge etc. should apply for a bursary.
If any members knows of a bowler coming into our
area who has a record of achievement in the sport of bowls please let
Greg Kelly know, because on his becoming a member of the Club, he could
receive some assistance from the Foundation in order to achieve further
success.
The Foundation is being sponsored and will be
governed by five trustees - two Board members, one man and lady from our
Men's and Ladies' Clubs and one representing the sponsors.
Application forms, which outline the criteria in
more detail, are available from Greg Kelly, Bowls Development Officer,
or on the Club's website.

The Trustees met recently when two
applications for bursaries were discussed. They were received from
Rodney and Boyd McAlpine who had outstanding applications as they both
had represented New South Wales in Junior Interstate games as well as
winning numerous class events since 1992. At present they are playing
Division 1 pennant for the club. The Trustees agreed that they would be
worthy recipients of bursaries, which they will receive shortly.
